How to have a road trip in Himachal Pradesh in SIX days?

Ever wondered witnessing the beautiful reflections of clear sky and the mountains in the blue water of the lake at about 14000 ft. Well, better things require efforts to be put in and so did we on our trip. The trip included some detours for the itinerary didn’t go as per planned but that only made our trip even more adventurous. Here is the itinerary one should refer to make the most of his road trip in Himachal Pradesh covering Manali, Chandratal, Mcleodganj and Amritsar as a detour on return journey.

Day 1 (Haldwani – Delhi- Manali) – 755kms

Leave Haldwani by the noon and reach Delhi by eve. You can take a halt if you want else to continue your trip on the Delhi – Manali Highway.

Route – The route is a complete highway and with the views getting more spectacular as one approaches Manali. A patch of about 30kms is a bit of trouble at between Bilaspur and Rampur as you leave from Haldwani. Beyond this, you are going to enjoy your drive. As you reach Kullu you will find beside the lovely blue water flowing and splashing as they strike the rocks.

Food – There are plenty of options between Haldwani and Delhi but the most appropriate would be at Gajraula which is almost midway between the two. One can have all sorts of options from Dhabas to restaurants and even fast-food outlets like McDonald’s, KFC, and Dominos etc. For taste and hygiene, I will suggest Bikanerwala, Sagar Ratnam or Moga.

After crossing Delhi the best option available is Sukhdev Dhaba at Murthal or Jhil Mil Dhaba at Karnal. Have your tummies filled here as you won’t find much any further.

Early morning after covering almost 3/4th of your journey you can take a halt at any tea stall and refresh yourself while enjoying the beautiful views and cold breeze with a cup of tea/coffee.

In Manali you can head to the Jhonson Cafe or try as the locals for the famous Tibetan cafe in the market.

A refreshing tea with the rising sun
Morning Tea

Stay – Manali has plenty of hotels & hostels from budget to luxury but if one wants to feel the beauty and peace I will suggest staying in the Log Hut Area as it is a bit away from the market hustle bustle and offers serene beauty. The one I found the best and stayed in was Snow Valley Resorts. The resort offers large cozy rooms with amazing views. Moreover it has a terrace to enjoy your morning tea admiring the pine forest.

Also, don’t forget to take the complimentary meals with the stay as there are not many great options to eat and hotels serve a better and tasty food. If you are an explorer than go out exploring some cafes in the old Manali which is a backpackers paradise.

Places to visit –

  • Solang valley – The valley about 14 km from Manali offers a great place to beat your adrenaline rush with sports like paragliding, riding the ATV bikes and even more in the winters when the valley is snow covered and the pines capped with snow. The place is perfectly apt for the nature Must try the paragliding for it gives breathtaking views.
  • Hadimba Devi temple – Situated close to the Mall road the temple offers a calm and peaceful environment to the pilgrims. It is a cave temple situated in the foothills of the Himalayas being surrounded by the lush green pine forest.
  • Mall road – The main attraction of the tourist after the dawn is the mall road. All the tourist head out to the street for a walk in the cool breeze and enjoy shopping, eating and just feeling relaxed.

Day 2 (Manali – Chandratal) – 128kms

Route – Today you cover a distance of merely 128km to reach the pristine glacial lake. The lake being surrounded by the dry barren mountains which stands as a connection b/w the lakes and the sky. It will take about 8 hrs. to reach this out of the world place. Be prepared  as today will be a test of your driving skills coming up with a new challenge at every other turn. You must have an SUV for this with a good ground clearance and power to throttle on the slopes.

Food – Leave early in the morning to avoid the rush at Rohtang and reach Chandratal before sunset. Get your breakfast packed. Chatru will be the first spot to eat and after that Chacha Chachi ka Dhaba at Batal that is 14kms before Chandratal.

Stay – You will find some camps 2kms before the lake costing Rs. 800 to 1000 per head per night. Book your stay and go towards the lake. Spend few hours there and return back to the camp. Have the complimentary dinner and enjoy the night in the freezing cold temperatures reaching up to minus 12 degrees Celsius.

Place to visit –

  • Chandratal – Also called the Moon Lake is a true heaven for nature lovers. One can spend the whole day just admiring the beauty of the lake. If lucky enough on a no windy day you can even get to see the clear reflection of the blue sky and the surrounding mountains. It’s totally a picturesque moment for the photographers. Also one can shot the galaxy in the sky with a professional camera.

Tips – Don’t forget to take warm clothes and some medicines as there is a lack of oxygen and one can suffer from breathing problems.

[ngg_images source=”galleries” container_ids=”5″ display_type=”photocrati-nextgen_basic_slideshow” gallery_width=”600″ gallery_height=”400″ cycle_effect=”fade” cycle_interval=”2″ show_thumbnail_link=”0″ thumbnail_link_text=”[Show thumbnails]” order_by=”sortorder” order_direction=”ASC” returns=”included” maximum_entity_count=”500″]

Day 3 (Chandratal – Manali – Mandi) – 236kms

Route – Today covers back on the same route to reach Manali and continue the drive ahead to Mandi which is 3 hrs. ahead of Manali.

Food – Leave empty stomachs from the camp around 8 to 9 am and take a halt for breakfast at Batal. Drive straight ahead to Manali and you may stop over for some snacks else drive to Mandi. Dinner in the hotel you stay at or can have at the food joint of Dominos.

Stay – There are a lot of options to stay you can find on Google. If you love beauty and having breakfast river side with birds chirping music I would suggest Visco resort which is 2kms ahead of Mandi. The morning at the resort is perfect to sit beside the river sipping a cup of coffee and witnessing the mist in the environment with the birds chirping in the background. There nothing better than this moment.

 Place to visit –

  • Prashar Lake – If time permits the lake situated at 49 km north of Mandi with an altitude of about 8000 ft is a must visit. The small island in the lake that keeps changing its position and moreover the undetermined depth of the lake are few facts known.
Day 4 (Mandi – Dharamshala – Mcleodganj) – 131kms

Route – The route is awesome with a small patch of about 3 – 4kms of disturbance ahead of Mandi. Covering the Baijnath temple near Dharamshala continue the drive to reach Mcleodganj.

Food – After breakfast in the hotel leave and for lunch you may halt on the way though there are not many options you have. Reach Mcleodganj by the eve. Check in to the hotel and fill up your tummies at any of the cafés. The best ones are Tibetan Kitchen, Mc ‘LLO, and for sweets Woeser bakery if you are looking for Tibetan, north Indian, and some sweets respectively. Must try the Walnut Tart at the Woeser bakery.

Stay – There are plenty of options available from Rs. 1500. I suggest taking one close to the Mcleodganj square. Hotel Sapphire offers a great balcony view and is nearby the square. Don’t take the meals in the hotels and leave it to try in the numerous cafes.

Place to visit –

  • Baijnath Temple – Being situated on the way to Dharamshala which is about 40 km from here, the temple of Lord Shiva is built of beautifully carved out of stonework and is from the old age. There is a lush green carpet grass to spend some time and on the backdrop of the temple is a panoramic view of the mountains and rivers.

I am sure as the road trip approaches its end you must be carving for more. So to cater this today you will take a small detour on the way back to Delhi. Adding to the trip will be the magnificent gold structure The Golden Temple.

Day 5 (Mcleodganj – Amritsar – Delhi) – 680kms

Route – The route is a highway and one can achieve a good average speed to reach Delhi. Today you will go for local sightseeing and then drive to Delhi via Amritsar to cover Golden temple.

Food – Enjoy the early morning tea at the roadside stall on the square. Breakfast at any of the café and leave by 9: 00 am as a lot to cover today. I suggest the Carpe Diem on the temple road for the breakfast. Also, must give your taste buds the taste of another great dish from the Tibetan cuisine called Lapping Noodles which are served either dry or soupy and are available close to the Monastery on a small stall roadside.

Places to visit –

  • Bhagsu temple – Situated 2 km from Mcleodganj the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It comprises a fresh water spring for the devotees to take a dip. You can park your car and walk through the street as you shop some stuff for yourself. After the worship move ahead to the waterfall.
  • Bhagsu waterfall – At about 1.5 from the Bhagsu temple leads a path to the 20 feet high waterfall. A good amount of strength is required to reach the top due to the elevation. The fall is at its peak beauty during monsoon with mist rising from the water and the tiny droplets in the air presents a soothing effect on the soul and body.
  • Dal Lake – Not to be confused with the one in Jammu & Kashmir, this is totally different from the one there. The lake beside a tourist spot holds religious importance. Every year, on the occasion of Radha Ashtami a fair is being organized here which is a plethora of colors.
  • Jhon Church – This beautiful stone church dates back from 1852 and is one of the buildings preserved since the British Era. Located at 20 mins walk from the Mcleodganj Square makes it easily accessible. The Belgium stained glass in the window marks memories as a gift from Lady Elgin. The church though itself beautiful gets added beauty from the thick pine forest that surrounds the church.
  • Tsuglad Khang Complex – Located down the street on temple road the entry from the large Iron Gate involves security screening. The place is home to 14th Dalai Lama and allows photography within the campus except inside the main temple.
  • Golden temple or Sri Harminder Sahib – Located in Amritsar in the states of Punjab this is one of the holiest place of Sikhs. The Gurudwara surrounded by a beautiful lake is made of pure gold. Also it holds its name for having the world’s largest  kitchen serving free food for 100000 – 300000 people a day.[ngg_images source=”galleries” container_ids=”7″ display_type=”photocrati-nextgen_basic_slideshow” gallery_width=”600″ gallery_height=”400″ cycle_effect=”fade” cycle_interval=”3″ show_thumbnail_link=”0″ thumbnail_link_text=”[Show thumbnails]” order_by=”sortorder” order_direction=”ASC” returns=”included” maximum_entity_count=”500″]

Stay – Delhi is full of hotels from cheap to luxury which suits all sorts of travelers. Book online for great deals. Prefer taking it after crossing Delhi to prevent from morning traffic jam.

Day 6 – (Delhi – Haldwani) – 278kms

Route – Route is same as was on the first day of our road trip with the same food options. Leave at your own comfort either with the sunrise or after a nice and light breakfast.

Places to visit –

  • Lotus Temple – The Baha’i House of Worship located in Delhi, known for is architectural magnificence. Its Lotus shaped structure rising above the lush green garden makes it insta worthy for photography lovers. Each of the nine sides of the temple’s entry and exit are made by a group of three free standing marble petals. Inside of the temple is a vast room where people sit in silent devotion to god. A very calming and pleasing atmosphere can be felt the moment you step in.
  • Red Fort – The fort served as a residence of Mughal Emperor for about 200 years. Also its great significance in Indian political history makes it a paradise for history lovers. Built from the beautifully carved red stones the fort houses a number of museums. Its location in the Central Delhi makes it within easy reach.
  • Humayun’s Tomb – Situated in East of Delhi ,  it is the first structure to use red stone at such a large scale. The tomb houses the graves of Bega Begum, Hamida Begum and more from the family and was crowned with the UNESCO World heritage site in 1993.

The road trip ended after covering the states of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal and Punjab.

*This is how we had our road trip. The above itinerary can be adjusted in lieu with your driving caliber and no. of days in hand. Feel free to reach me for any and all help.

Versatile Blogger Award

It’s been a few months my blog was down due to lack of stories to share, reason being some financial issues. Though i could have created research based articles but that’s not my type. Feeling quite depressed for not able to write some good stuff transformed to a new high of motivation when I received a Versatile Blogger Award from Neha who writes at Revolving Compass.

About Versatile Blogger Award

Versatile Blogger Award is a token of appreciation for the hardship and honesty of a blogger. The fellow bloggers nominate other admirable bloggers who are either new on the path or have already traveled far.

The ones nominated are suppose to write about the award,

(1) introducing the ‘Versatile Blogger Award’, to the people
(2) introducing the one who nominated them .
(3) Nominating fellow bloggers in the process.

The one who Nominated me

Neha and Abhishek whose travel stories have always inspired me and I have been following their blog since I discovered  it in the early days of my journey. Neha with her partner or better to say Life Partner Abhishek have explored not only the Indian gems but also  many spectacular destinations abroad. I am sure you don’t wanna miss their articles so do have a look here and also not to miss their Insta.

Some little known facts about me

NOW, before I proceed to nominate I would like to take the opportunity to share some lesser known facts about me-

  1. Brought up in a town situated on the foothills of Indian Himalaya I had and have a predilection for pristine nature. Be it secluded beaches, spectacular sunrise & sunsets, placid lakes and more. Haldwani is a small town located close to Nainital, a famous hill station in North India. Due to its close proximity ( 5 mins. drive) from the mountains the city is blessed with pleasant weather round the year.
  2. Recently graduated Civil engineer having a deep sited love for travelling since high school. It all started when I was on my first family trip to Bangalore.
  3. I always wanted to pen down my experiences and the thought of blogging always freaked yet captivated. My programming skill were worst in the school. This made blogging not my cup of tea. It was only until after my graduation I finally took a step forward and realized I was wrong and blogging requires only will to learn new skills.
  4. I won’t say I have traveled a lot but what ever few places I have been to have left me with unique experiences. So far my list includes Jaipur, Nainital, Bangalore and not to miss a road trip on one of the world’s most adventurous routes- The Spiti Valley. A visa on the passport is yet left to be stamped.
  5. Being part of the family business I don’t have any tangible income and I receive money as and when needed. Now, that’s something I don’t like…I want to get away with asking for money to please my  travelling soul…
  6. Finding ways out I have started taking up freelancing work as a content writer, social media post scheduler and few more so that I am not anymore dependent on someone for money. But still a long way to go for….

Nominated for Sunshine Blogger Award

It’s feels so blessed to see that within six months of my blogging journey at Mohitarts, my blog has received recognition among others and this time received two awards in a month. A few days back I was nominated for the Blogger’s Recognition Award and now Sunshine Blogger Award 🙂 .

For those who aren’t aware about the Sunshine Blogger Award, it is an award given by a blogger to another creative and motivating bloggers. There are certain guidelines to be followed by the nominated bloggers.

To start with, a very warm thanks to Danica Gilbuena, living her life in pursuit of adventures and sharing her travel stories and guides at DBucketlist for nominating my blog.

Here are my answers to the questions posed by Danice

  • What is the most memorable country you’ve visited?

Now that’s too easy…I have been to only one country that’s my home ..the Incredible India.

  • Let’s say you’ve met someone who doesn’t like the idea of traveling, what will you say to him/her?

Well, if we have enough time to chat then I would go ahead sharing some of my travel stories and depending upon their interest may even ask to come along on my trip. I have met some people who agreed to come along me and some were like ‘ Why Should I Travel? There are lot more important things to do’. Left with no answers at times…

  • What kind of traveler are you?

I believe in ‘Pack your bags and leave’ kind of philosophy specially for domestic trips. It makes my journey more exciting. Also I prefer choosing a different hotel for each individual day.

  • So far in your life of travelling, have you ever wanted to stay somewhere and never come back. If yes, where and why?

The most loved place I would never want to comeback from is Leh in Jammu & Kashmir, India. But I will definitely come back with a sad yet excited heart because there are many more places yet to see. And,until we comeback from one we won’t be able to go to another place which could be even more beautiful.

  • What was the first trip that made you love travelling?

It was the festivals of color ‘Holi’ in India when after hours of playing and having fun I decided to go for a trip as I had five days break. And within two our of this thought I and my cousin were all set to leave for the bus station with destination still undecided.

IMG_20160325_132909
Jaipur

The trip was so fun with excitement of where will we go, the daily evening in search for a place to stay, standing at the airport counter and watching the sales girls laugh out loud when we asked her for the earliest & cheapest flight to anywhere in India…

All this was so fun and thrilling…..and made me realize to keep traveling

  • If you were to spend last day of being alive, how will you spend it?

Haven’t thought of that ever and always try to live in the present and act as per the situations..Still to answer I would try to be with my family.

  • Travelling makes us see people in different light. What is that one trait that you have always hated before but learned to accept and understand after meeting so many people while traveling?

Since my childhood I haven’t been  a very talkative guy and probably that’s the reason I have very limited friend circle. But on my trips specially solo, one thing I have learnt that you need to be interactive to make new friends on the go and also talkative to build up a nice environment around as no one would want sit idle just to be with you…

  • What was the most delicious food you have tried outside your country?

I always hate to answer this question for I have not been abroad so far. But, would like to mention that food that gains my attraction is

  • If you were to go somewhere tomorrow , where will it be and why?

If visas is not a boundation I would head straight to Iceland.the landscape there are so picture perfect…I always wanted to visit once

  • What is your belief in life?

Live to Love ur Life and not pass it.

Never give upon taking opportunities with the fear of failure.

Okay that’s it, I don’t want to be make it a lecture 😀

And now I would like to nominate :

Received 'Blogger Recognition Award'

I can’t tell how overwhelming it was for me when I received a mail notifying me for being nominated as the ‘Blogger Recognition Award’. All thanks to  who shares his journey of being a flamenco on his blog Fleur de Flamenco which you must give a read to.

Here are the rules:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  • Write a post to show your award.
  • Give a brief story of how your blog started.
  • Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.
  • Select 15 other bloggers you want to give this award to.
  • Comment on each blog and let them know you have nominated them and provide the link to the post you created.

Story of how I started:

Not much has past since I started my journey on to the path of blogging. It was the month of August from the year 2016 when I finally gave up my biggest hurdle which was to put up the work on tomorrow. I have been thinking of having my blog for around four years back during my graduation but didn’t built up the courage as there was always a feeling of mixing studies with passion leading to failure. One fine day after I graduated I thought       ‘Hurdles will never let you begin and you are definitely a failure only until you do it’ And that’s how I started and since then I have learnt a fact that ‘ Never let the fear of failure stop you from taking up new tasks’.

Advice to new bloggers:

  1. My first advice would that never loose hope. There will be days when your views will get hyped out of nowhere but there will also be days with minimal or zero views. Never let that disappoint you and your only focus should be on creating your best content.
  2. Always stay active on social media and its not a rule that you need to be on all but what ever you choose stay connected with your audience. We all know the major ones are Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest. So see what brings traffic to your site and build it up.

I nominate:

  1. Revolvinng Compass by Neha Verma
  2. Voyager by Sandy and Vijay
  3. Earths Attractions by Violeta-Loredana P. and Liliana K.
  4. Migrating Miss by Sonja

Riva Beach Resort

Location-
Riva Beach Resort

Mandrem Beach, Pernem

Goa 403527

Website – Riva Beach Resorts

About Riva Beach Resort –
riva-beach-resort-2

This 3 star resort being located at just a 100 m walk from the Mandrem Beach offers you the comfort of your room with view of a beautiful riverfront crossing which you have a pristine beach.

Unlike other famous tourist beaches like the Calangute, Candolim or even Baga the Mandrem Beach will make your holidays full of pleasure and relaxing. The charm increases even more in the night when you lay down on the beach side in the cool breeze with millions of stars to sooth your eyes.

How about your rooms?

Just lay down with your book

Well the resort has some amazing rooms which comes with a beautiful riverfront and others without. No matter which category you choose you can be assured of the best comfort and service.

We booked for deluxe room but to our destiny were offered an upgrade to the super deluxe room which comes with a balcony to sit out and have the amazing view- remember the riverfront I talked about in above lines.

What to do for the day ?

The best thing about resorts is that they should be a destination within themselves and this one fits into the category. There are various activities you can indulge yourself in along with your kids.

  • Let’s get fit

Start your morning with a walk on the beach followed by yoga for which you can even have an instructor from the resort.

  • Time to get some swimming lesson’s

Yes, the resort provides you with a trainer for you don’t feel sad being not able to dive into there beautiful pool.

  • Time to get yourself wet

    Sunset at Mandrem Beach

Well you are on a beach and a holiday is incomplete without surfing and for those who don’t know how to do that, the resort’s surfing school is at your service.

  • That’s not enough? They have more

You can even get some hands on Kayaking.

All these activities are conducted by the resort itself or else you can just lay down on the beach in peace for which the people are here.

Feeling Hungry?

Time for breakfast

Food is something which can make or break your experience and while we checked in the resort we expected it to be something so – so and heavy on pocket but when the time came to give our taste buds a new experience to our surprise the food was not only delicious come for a nominal price unlike other resorts where the prices are hyped and people on budget have to look for options at places outside.

The complimentary morning breakfast served was also so amazing with a live kitchen to serve you three different types of omelet, boiled eggs, few South Indian dishes and some new dishes out of which that I tasted was the herbs boiled potatoes.

As you enter the resort you will be welcomed by the courteous staff and till you leave they will cater you with a smiling face to make your stay hassle free.

Coming over to the tariff

Well the Riva Beach resort has capped a very justified price for their guest but there is always an option for online booking. That’s the way I grabbed a deal for the deluxe room at Rs. 2500 per night with a complimentary breakfast for two.

Goa

Goa is the smallest state in India situated on the western coast. The size so small, that one can go from one end to other within few hours. But being small its comes with full of blast. It’s best example of ‘ Small packet, blasts louder’….hahah I might be wrong in the phrase…

Goa has a number of big and small beaches out of which some are quite and peaceful like Mandrem, Ashvem, Colva etc while others are the most happening places in town full of tourist like Baga, Calangute, Anjuna, Candolim and Morjim.

These images are from my recent visit in January 2017 in which I explored all the above mentioned beaches and came up with my personal recommendations for you with how can you get the most of your trip while saving some money..along with Goa I even visited Mumbai and Shirdi too and for the full post follow us because it will be soon up on board and I am sure you would not like to miss the awesome experience I will be sharing…

Till then enjoy some spectacular shots …

Hotel Ramada Bangalore

Location –

11, Park Road, Swamy Shivanandapuram, Shivaji Nagar,

Bengaluru, Karnataka 560051

Website – Ramada Bangalore

How to reach –

Bangalore is very well connected by rail, road and air networks. Once you reach the city you can easily hire a cab or auto to take you to the hotel.

About the hotel –

Hotel Ramada Deluxe Room

The property is in the name of Ramada one of the leaders in the hospitality industry but maintained by Orchids another renowned name in the industry.

Situated in the middle of the city the location is great but comes at the cost that you get to have no stunning views from the room.

As you enter the premises you will see the sky rising building of the hotel. The hotel has a small sitting area opposite to the reception for the guests to wait. On the right side is the way upstairs and an amazing dining area which is run by Tiger Trail a leading food chain.

Room –

The moment you open up the door you’ll see room with large mirrors on both side of the bed and opposite to it is the TV unit with an amazing mood light. The room is quite spacious with a small chair and coffee table placed next to a giant window.

Also, you get your own tea and coffee essential complimentary to enjoy a refreshing drink as per your taste.

The washroom is not too big but comes with all basic necessities and a glass partition for the shower area. All the bathing essentials are kept in along with a hair dryer.

Food-

Had the complimentary breakfast which was not up to my expectations. I had previously stayed in their another property Royal Orchid, Jaipur which had a much more lavish breakfast served with a huge variety.

Over here though the variety was not lavish but what ever they served was worth a try and some deserves to be re-ordered from the live kitchen.

My personal favorites goes to the strawberry flavored yogurt, freshly cooked masala omelette and the Masala Dosa.

Service-

Would share an experience for a better judgement-

“Well, I asked the stationery for a pair of scissors and they said they would send in 10 mins. The guy arrived and said he needs it back in an hour as other guests were also asking and they had only one pair ( something weird). I said bring it to me at last before you sleep after catering all guests as I need to use it early in the morning before I leave and he said ok.

Now after 4 calls at the reception the guy came at 11:00 PM  with the manager and gave the scissors merely for  5 mins.

I don’t know why but that was something I didn’t liked about the service.” Maybe it was due to safety reasons for people don’t commit any sort of crime, suicide or something like that….no matter what but for me it was weird.

The service in the restaurant was without any flaws with the waiters well behaved.

Cost –

Though the rack rates don’t justify the luxury of the rooms but getting a deal through online sites like makemytrip, goibibo etc.will be a better choice to make. I got that for Rs. 1500 whereas the rack rates starts from Rs. 6000.
